Purchasing and Terms of Use
TpT, for now. Currently, all of my products are available for purchase from my Teachers Pay Teachers storefront, and to a lesser extent, Classful. I am currently learning how to design an e-commerce site and hope to sell my products directly on this webpage in the near future.
Yes! I feel that educators should always be able to make modifications to resources purchased from my store to suit the needs of their own courses. This is why I always provide editable versions (Word, PowerPoint, Excel formats) of my products so that educators can edit the text as they see fit. However, this typically does not apply to images I have created or obtained from publicly available sources. In addition to an editable version, I always provide a static PDF version for easy uploading to Google Classroom and other educational platforms.
No. All products come as a digital download licensed only to one teacher (you!). You can, however, purchase a license for your colleague, or direct them to my TpT store to purchase another copy of the resource. I work hard to create quality resources for educators, and when you share or post them to internet commons to distribute free of charge, it impacts my ability to continue Science With Mr. Enns.
Yes and no. Products can be posted to secure educational platforms such as Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, or other LMSs. However, according to my Terms of Use, my products cannot be posted to publicly accessible sites for the purpose of sharing and/or downloading, even unintentionally.
Alignment
MS and lower HS, mainly. My resources cover nearly all science topics, including anatomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics. I also provide rubrics, classroom forms, and games. Most of my products have been designed for upper middle school to early high school grades (the grades that I teach) but my anatomy resources have been designed for upper high school and AP-level courses.
Yes, and no. Since state standards differ, it is impossible to create one-size-fits-all products for all states. However, I have aligned my biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics products to NGSS and to a lesser extent, TEKS. My anatomy resources meet the Science Olympiad rules for the Anatomy and Physiology event since I coach it. I am waiting for AP Anatomy and Physiology standards to be published, which I will then align my resources to. This won’t be too difficult as my anatomy resources meet or exceed most high school standards.
Not really. While I use many different textbooks (physical, online) as references when creating my products, I do not follow one particular book. I frequently rearrange material in a way that makes the most sense for me, for my students, and for my curriculum aims.
Yes! My products are aligned to the NGSS and therefore, MOST state standards. Most of my labs use materials that can be found at your local grocery store or can be purchased from Amazon (where I get most of my supplies). There may be a number of chemistry labs that require specific substances only available to schools. This is why I publish the Teacher’s Notes page in my product preview, so that homeschool educators can see what materials are needed for a lab before purchasing.
I sort of do! I don’t create step-by-step lessons plans per se because the requirements for each teacher, school, district, etc. vary so much. I DO provide a teacher guide for every unit that states the number of weeks required, order of lessons, and main topics for each lesson. I also suggest what products (PPT slides, labs, worksheets, quizzes, etc.) that were designed to work together. By following the unit overview and PPT, educators can easily create individualized lesson plans, complete with objectives, vocabulary, starter, activities, and homework tasks. Essentially, I provide the main “ingredients” for each lesson and leave it up to the educator to choose how best to use them. It’s what I do when I change my lessons to fit the needs of my different classes!
Troubleshooting
That’s a tough one. There are many reasons why you may be having difficulty downloading files. The 3 most common reasons I encounter are (1) not allowing the download to go to completion; (2) not extracting the zipped file once downloaded; and (3) not having the most up-to-date versions of Office products or Adobe Acrobat Reader. I have the same issue! Even though I take great care when designing my PPT presentations to make the formatting compatible with Google Slides, conversion errors still arise. Typically, these are automatic changes to font sizes, positioning of pictures, and animations that run together. Since I upload every one of my PPTs to Google Drive for my own students, this happens to me more often than anyone else. Right now, I simply review the Google Slides document and manually fix the errors when I find them. As an alternative, you may wish to show the PPT file in class and post the PDF version (always included) so that your students can view them at home as they are intended to look. I wish I had a better answer at the time of writing; instead I have shared what I have to do to get around this problem!
Yes, and apologies. I do my best to proofread my products carefully before uploading, but sometimes errors slip by. I want my resources to be the best versions possible for all those who purchase them, so if you spot an error please contact me at sciencewithmrenns@gmail.com so that I can review the product closely and get it fixed as soon as possible.
